Hi! I'm Megan!
I was born and raised in a small town called Greene, NY. It is one of the most beautiful places I know; God used the people and circumstances of life there to grow me into the woman I am today. I grew up in a Christian family which includes my dad, mom, and two siblings (Brendan and Madison). All seemed to be good and right in my little world. Then when I was 4 years old, my dad was gone for about a year. I did not understand it in the moment, but God had a purpose that I wouldn't understand in the void.
When I was 5 years old, it was Easter, and we were at my Grandma King’s house. I asked my Grandma about Jesus because we had learned about His death and resurrection in Sunday School. I have no idea what I asked her, but I do remember the outcome. It was on that day that I realized that God was a Father who loved us so much, but there was something that broke our relationship with Him. That something was our sin. Our sin stood between the Father and us and there was nothing we could do to fix it. But God… BUT GOD!!!!! He wanted to be our Father soooo much that He sent His son to die to pay the price that we could not pay. And then He beat death! He rose again and the payment cleared! That was the day that I accepted Jesus as the Lord and Savior of my life. I don’t know that I would have been as attentive to that truth if my dad had not been gone at that point in my life. God can use literally anything to bring people to Himself, and I hope I never cease to be amazed by how He moves.
Now to how Brazil happened! I have wanted to be a missionary since I was about 7 years old. I didn’t know what that really meant except you travel the world to tell people about Jesus. During college, I learned that you are a missionary wherever you are, so I decided wherever God had me, I would be a missionary. I started to work at Liberty University and engage more with the community. That became my mission field. One day, my friend, Tara, invited me to go to Global Focus Week during our lunch break (in short, that is where numerous missions organizations come and share what they're about). There is where we came across the A B W E booth. We started talking to Mandy and Maicol Venter, a missionary couple from South Brazil.
From there, God unfolded this crazy, amazing series of events leading to me having coffee with Mandy. A year and a half later, I was on a plane with them heading to South Brazil when God broke me in my self-sufficiency, comforts, and desire for control. While in the country, God developed in me a deep love and compassion for the people of the region. He challenged me with, “Maybe I didn’t send you here to support Mandy and Maicol from the states. Maybe this is where I want you to go.” When I got home, I called my mom to ask her about all I had been praying about with being a missionary to Brazil. She told me, “Honey, I gave you up to God as a missionary a long time ago. It wasn’t a question of 'if' as much as it was a 'when' and 'where.'" I started my application immediately. I also went back to Brazil 6 months later to simply live life in the day to day with a missionary woman I had met down there, Erin Wawro. God further deepened that desire to go, and share the Gospel with the people of Brazil. So here I am! I’m not perfect. There have been many stumbles along the way, but God’s work is not finished in me yet. If you'd like to read more about why Brazil and what God is leading me to do there, read through my U P D A T E S that tell the stories of God's movement in my life. He has changed a lot of my plans, and it has been scary and amazing. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to hear more whether that is an email, phone call, meeting with you, or joining my mailing list. You can fill out this information on my C O N N E C T page.
